If you are open to it, you may want to take a look at "Why Christianity Must Change or Die" by John Spong. It is not quite as abrasive as the title make sit out to be, but it addresses many of the issues as to why Christianity and religion in general struggles in out time and ways to make a change for the better.

that is what I was trying to say. The fundamentals, lessons, and ideas contained within it are the keys.
