regarding POLL: Powered by JL HD750/1, best SQ sub w/ focus on the 20-35Hz region

i'm trying to see where the SQ side of things comes into play in the 20-35Hz region? do these people all happen to jam out to pipe organ music? am i missing some new phenomenon? should there be a micro quiz as a qualifier first before people are allowed to answer a question that could not possibly have a clear answer with the limited information we were given? maybe it was a poll to point out every person participating as someone whom you absolutely cannot take seriously. i hope it's the latter.

I understand exactly what he's talking about, but I don't have a lot of experience with different subs or different frequencies with different subs/amps, etc.

I do know though, that not every sub can go as low as 20Hz, and it doesn't matter why someone wants to play 20Hz. I also know that true high fidelity sound comes from more than just amp, sub, and box.

And I lol'd at the first two responses.

now we just need to help you get rid of that misinformation that you've been given by someone or another somewhere down the road behind you. every subwoofer IS capable of going as low as 20Hz. just as Fs is NOT an indicator as to how low a dynamic speaker can play.

you are point on where you said hifi is more than just amp, sub and box though. if imaging effects were part of the design behind a recording and your particular amp, speaker and box won't reproduce that identical stage....that clearly indicates there is another factor.

I never said the Fs said how low a speaker can go. I was basing what I said off of the written frequency response of different subs on different websites, as in claimed specs, even though claimed specs can be written more for protection than actual capability. And while it may be technically possible for a sub to go as low as 20 Hz, it may not be present enough to be audible, no matter the enclosure/tuning, etc.

The enclosure.. It is part of the equation, you cant have one without the other

you can design an enclosure to acoustically support any subwoofers mechanical deficiency within a target bandwidth. the wider the bandwidth, the lower the average output will be, but you can make them all play way down into the subsonic range and be mechanically healthy.
