reformatting computer without reboot cd?

Just curios how i can reinstall windows if i dont have a reboot CD? Its a HP, is there a way i can download the reboot cd and burn my own or something? Im trading my laptop and want to clear it off before i send it, i just dont have the cd anymore.

Just get a xp distro.

You'd benefit greatly by getting a newer distro with all the updates compiled into the installer, rather than the OEM one.

Anyways, XP's so mature now, it's idiotproof to do a fresh install. Almost all of the drivers for your hardware will be included, or installed automatically, minus video cards and soundblaster sound cards.

Just borrow someone's XP disk.

You should have a xp key on the bottom or back of your computer on a sticker.

or just try to go to a lacal computer store and ask to get hooked up with an OEM based XP cd. they run cheaper then actualy XP CD's and aren't supposed to be sold unless if sold by the store for/with a custom built computer. i can get them as low as $65 for XPSP2 just cause i know the owners of the store and had a conversation with them about WoW. LOL. i don't even play WoW.(they love WoW and are always playing it everytime i go there)

if you rip a copy of XP it won't work.

if you know ANYONE with a copy of an original XP disk ask to borrow it with their CD key. tell them you are not going to register it with their CD key. when the registration part after XP is installed just call up microsoft and tell them you reformatted your computer an can't get it to register. they'll ask you dumb questions. just say it's your disk and you've had to format your HD multiple times and la la la. they'll just give you a new reg number no problem. i've done it a few times.

BUT!!! before you even dare format the hard drive download all the proper drivers from the HP website for your computer. just to be safe, because it would **** really bad to not have the LAN drivers for your ethernet bus and be stuck w/o being able to download them. just download them and burn them onto a cd. keep it on hand for w/e
