Reducing Internal Volume without adding weight?

The sub I will be running in my 07 STI, will be a JL10w3v3. But the sealed box I am getting (used) is a little big. I was wondering what is the best way to reduce the internal volume of the box without adding any (or very little) weight?

Can I add foam board to the insde? Wadding? Something else? Sorry for the nub question... but hey, im a nub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Just for reference, JLs recommendations for the sub are:

18 x 11 x 9 = .68 Cubic Feet

Dimensions of the box I am getting, are:

16 x 13 x 13 = 1.1 Cubic Feet

So I think I need to get the volume of this box down to 14x11x11 or 13x11x11 to be close to .68. Or, would you say that the sub would sound just fine in the larger box? (i will be running 300 to it). Or would you recommend I pass on this used box and have my shop build me one to spec?

So any help you guys could provide would be awesome!

For some reason, that's what they say, adding softie things in your box, makes your sub act like the box is bigger than it is... I don't know how that works, that's just what I've heard also..

cut a few inches off of one side and make it smaller yourself. now you have less weight

adding POLYFIL to the box makes it seem a bit bigger....if you add dense foam it will surely make it smaller

but the difference in the sizes you listed isn't going to be huge in sound in my opnion and certainly isn't going to hurt that sub

2x4s dont weigh much, just use light weight wood.

Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah, what I was thinking about, was dense foamboard from a craft store or something. But what i was also interested in, was the sound side affect of running 1.1 cu instead of .68 like they recommend. Since I am new to this stuff, I don't know if a difference of .33 cu is HUGE, or small.... and then, how much of an affect would it have...
