redoing my gains and frequencies on my 4 channel amp, but need Confirmation on things

Hey guys. At first i was having trouble setting my gains and frequecnies on my mono amp for the subs, and my 4 channel amp for the speakers. Yesterday, i did both pretty good, and the sound system sounds good and safe from distortion. I know the mono amp and the subwoofer are done, and i do not need to touch them again, becuse i tested them with a DMM and my ears. my mono amp puts out 400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms, and my prebuilt sub box with subs is 2 ohms. Therefore i need 28.? volts to achieve that RMS wattage. I did that with teh DMM and i lowered the gains a little bit so its probbaly at about 27 volts. I tested it with a 80 Hz 0DB test tone and volume 25 on my alpine deck, wiuth the sub volume at the deck at 15(highest) and no bass boast on the amp. And the put the LPF at about 80 hz. and it sounds good, and there should be no way i can produce clipping with the mono amp.

Do you guys think i set the gain and frequency alirht on my mono amp according to what i told you guys.

And after thinking about it more, when i did the voltage forumla for when i used the DMM i did 400 Watts RMS(amp) x 2 ohms= SQRT of 800= its like 28.4. But is it 2 ohms or 4 ohms. my subs are here http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Specifications-of-MTX-Dual-12-1350W-Subwoofers-Enclosure-TCE4512X2D/sem/rpsm/oid/147568/rpem/ccd/productDetailSpecification.do#tabs

There are two subs but only one input terminal so, i dknot know if its 2 ohms or 4 ohms. If it is 4 ohms wouldnt that mean i can increase my gain so that the DMM reads a AC voltage of 40.( 4X400=1600 squareroot=40 volts.

Now i did the 4 channel amp as well by ear(since mids and highs are pretty easy to hear distortion either with a test tone or with my music). It sounds good, but i think i can make it some what better.

This is where i need help. First of all, all 4 speakers are T.M.A 6.5's. the back 2 are t6.5f2 and are 150 watts RMA coaxile speakers. The front 2 are t6.5SC2 components and are 150 watts RMS. The 4 channel amp is a T.M.A T320.4 and does 60 watts RMS x 4@ 4ohms.

There are duplicate control sections on the 4 channel amp( two gain knobs, ......). The HPF dials goe from 60hz-1.4 k.

First ill start with the gain. First off, i turned the gains all the way down, and had the deck features turned off, and my treble set at 2, and bass set at 2,, thats where i like those to be. Heres my small mistake which is why i want to do it again. I didnt turn the filters off(flat) so i had the HPF's on, and i think the dials were turned all the way up to 1.4 k on the frequencies. If the HPF was turned on wouldnt that mean that it wasnt really letting any signal go past it clearly. Because doesnt the HPF work in the opposite direction oppossed to the LPF. so if i had the HPF set on say 500 hz, wouldnt it let through 500 HZ...600hz.... 700hz... and up to 1400hz, and block out anything below 500 hz? anyways, i had it at that, and firdst put music of jmy taste in, and turned it to the 25 volume on the deck with the gains all the way. i turned the gains up slowly and listed for distortion, i finally heard it, so i turned them down a little. to double check, i play a 1000 hz 0 db test tone, and turned back to 25. it was disorting roughly at the same area i had the gains set at already. so i thought it was set all good. It sounds good right now but i think i can get it better due to my mistake with the filters not being turned on to flat when doing it. and then for the frequencies, i put the HPF on, and started form 1.4 k. I slowly turned the dials down, eventually letting a little more bass in as the mid frequeccnies became closer. I ended up leaving it about halfway between 1.4k and 60 hz on both dials on the 4 channel amp.

So my help is with the setting of the gains and frequencies again on myu 4 channe amp. When doing the gains should i have the filters off. and is it ok to use both music and test tones for better testing and to double check things.im going to use 0 Db because they eliminate clipping for sure, because hardly any music is recording at that high of a level. But what frequency test tone should i use, 1000 hz again? or should i do lower since i want myu frequencies set lower?

whats a good frequency to use mids/highs; I heard people saying about 120 hz and up. if this was true, how would i got about setting it at that since my dials dont have reading in between 1.4k (max) and 60 hz(min). wouldnt i Just put a 120 hz test tone oN OR whatever the good frequencyt is for mid/highs and have the frequencys set at the lowest possible poINT (60 HZ) and have it set on HPF. Then wouldnt i slowly raise the dial until the sound tone started to change. wouldnt this be true becasue once i hit the 120 hz point or whatever the number is good, wouldnt it slowly start to block it out as i raised the dial up a little bit after that point. I want my speakers to play some bass, becasue i dont like it when only the subwoofers produce the bass. is 120 hz for mids/ highs too low. keep in mind again that my fronts are components ( woofer seperate from tweeter with a crossover to seperate the mid and high frequencies between the two). I know tgoo much bass in a mid wooofe like that causes distortion, but i want the freuqnecies set that it has a goodamount of bass but doesnt distort at the 25 volume mark.

and say if my frequecnies were going to be set to 120 or something like that, is it still good to set the gains with a 1000 hz test tone or would it be better to do a test tone closer to the starting frequency point.

Sorry if it was confusing to read. I dont know much about car audio stuff, and im trying to get the best out of my stuff volume and safe wise considering i paid a lot for this stuff. and the installers are stupid and didnt set anything right, so im not going to any place, haha. I have a DMM too(i used it for the sub amp), but i dont want to use it on the 4 channel amp, cuz i dont think its neccesary for mids' highs.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this and help me out. Much help is appreciated. Thanks again.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif
