Reconnecting 2 wires???

What's the best way to reconnect 2 wires? Yesterday, I cut 2 wires I shouldn't have cut and I want to reconnect them. I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand am GT with the Monsoon system. It has a monsoon amp mounted in the trunk and I removed the harness and cut 2 wires to hookup to my basslink. My intention was to tap into it but since i'm a noob at this, I didn't know that I only had to strip the wire, exposing the copper and then place the tap into that area. It took me some time before I discovered what I did wrong. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

So what is the best way to reconnect it?

You have a couple options, but since you said you are kinda new, I will give the easiest one. Strip about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch from each side of the wires. Twist them together very tightly, and wrap it in some electrical tape. You can also get some heatshrink(at most auto parts stores) and you can use a blow dryer to make the heatshrink wrap. But I use electrical tape for most minor electrical connections.

easiest and fastest - electrical tape

best - solder

another method, use a butt connector i believe they called. it's basically like a little tube with 2 open ends. u insert one wire thru one side, n the other thru the other side, nt hey both meet in the midlde, n u just cramp the connector.

I think the soldering method would be best. I want something permanent and that won't give me trouble in the future.

Here is the thing, the wires cannot twist together because there isn't enough length to do so. So what I would need is another wire. What kind of wire would I need?

you would get the same wire as what it already is....any gauge would work prolly but try to get the same size. Go out an buy some 18 gauge (the wire is prolly around that size)....or just match it up if you can

a butt connector would prolly work too..you dont neccesarily have to twist the wires for that to work....they just need to be as close together as possible, since there is metal inside the butt connector

Butt connectors would also be my choice. Red ones for small gage (up to 18 gage). A good pair of ViceGrips works as a crimper (adjustable squishness) if you don't have the correct tool.

I do have butt connectors. Thankfully, several came with my Stinger kit. However, the wires won't reach. It needs to be extended. So another wire would need to be put in between the two wires inorder for them to connect. And if i'm going to do that, I might as well just solder the wires together.

Where can I find heat shrink?
