so i am going to be building a sub and i was wondering about glue. i know ca glue is preferred but as i was searching the internet, i found some people saying they use gorilla glue or seal-all glue or some other kinds. could find any more info about durability, just that it is what they use.

any one have any experience using something other then ca glue to recone? or should i just go ahead and pay the extra $ for it.

Do NOT use CA. CA wicks into material quite far. So if used to secure the surround to the basket, especially with foam surrounds, where CA wicks far into the material that portion will become brittle and crack easily. Want to know exactly what most companies use for building their woofers?

Labeled as: 3M Super Weatherstrip And Gasket Adhesive - Find it at Oreilly auto parts. Almost identical formulation..

Will take at least a day to cure, but there is nothing better.

In my experience of many many recones and woofers built by myself, this has held up better than anything I've used.

Vulcanized CA works for a while, but it will completely solidify over time and not remain flexible, that's why the 3M stuff is FTMFW.

i know ia uses ca glue to build there subs. and alot of other speaker companies use ca. if the sub is built properly ca glue is best.

I think there is some confusion. CA is used on the triple glue joint (cone, spiders, former) and on the spider landing. The surround and dustcap sometimes uses the softer gasket type adhesive like previously mentioned. These are the only two places where anything other than CA is considered.
