Recommended Amp for two JL 13w3v3's

you got lucky with your 80A alt.

and I have a very clear understanding of the duty cycle of music. There's a book's worth of writing on the subject in the archives at audiogroupforum.com

I got the opportunity to get my system monitored for a few minutes by a charging system computer at a local auto electric shop. I was running ~1200w at the time. Bass Mechanik at full volume was drawing 40-60A constantly with an occasional burst to 70-80A.

That's roughly 2x what the alt was intended to provide in order to last a few years.

I'm not trying to say ~1500w won't work with a 100A alt.

I'm just saying the alt's clock is ticking pretty fast trying to carry that much load -- batteries or no batteries.

A few weeks? Probably. A few months? Maybe. A year? I wouldn't bet on it.

Whether you have one small battery or 4 huge batteries -- before the batteries ever enter the equation the alt has to be maxed out.

And having the extra batteries obviously makes the alt work harder.

there's plenty of people on the forum who've run 1500 rms + on stock alts for many years without problems. I just feel its not as bad of a problem as you make it out to be, but its one of those theory vs real world situations. Its a ticking time bomb sure, but rarely do i hear about alternator failure around here unless its a shady company or ebay alt.

I have two 4ohm JL 13w3v3's. As of right now, i have a boss phantom 1500 powering them. It wasn't my choice as my brother bought them and i bought it from him. I took the system to my local audio shop and they said the system was underpowered. I can't do too many aftermarket mods to my truck (2007 toyota tundra 5.7l 100amp alternator) like a new alternator and such because i don't have the money. What amp would give my subs the necessary power to run at 600w RMS. As I'm sure you can already tell, I'm new to the world of audio systems. When an amp says 1200w x 1 @ 4ohms, is that gonna power 2 subs at 1200w or just 1? i realize the "x 1" is talking about 1 channel but is the 1200w for just one sub and not 2?
I installed my hifonics brx1600 the other day. running to the same setup you have. with the subs wired down to 2 ohms, im getting 1200 watts to the subs, and it sounds great!!!!! I was worried because it was a 1600 watt amp for under 200$.... but hell no, it pushed those 2 13's perfectly!!!! If your on a budget, I strongly recommend it
