I'm looking to upgrade my stock 2005 Subaru Impreza wagon stereo to something a little bit more substantial than the original one.
What music will be playing: Through the speakers I would like to listen to rock of all kinds and EDM along with house and trance.
Head Unit: To start with the head unit I'm looking for one with USB either in the front or the back and an easy interface. Also is there anything I should look out for in terms of RMS power? I've looked around and can't totally find which one I like. This isn't totally a problem since they're easier to find at good prices, but any recommendation would be nice.
Speakers: In my Subaru it's 51/4" up front and 4" back from what I've seen around the internet. Now I'm not totally sure about this until I take apart my doors but that's what I've heard. Trutfully I'd like to fit 6.5" in the front and either the same size or smaller so I wouldn't have to cut. I do have tweeter holes in the front so component speakers up front would be ideal. What woofer speakers would you recommend for my music tastes and all around quality for price? Also where would I go about getting spacers for the doors so the magnets don't hit the window when rolled down?
Amp and subwoofer: This is the most difficult for me to decide what I'd like to get. Truthfully I just want one subwoofer 10-12" that can put out clean punchy bass, nothing too huge and bulky. I've looked around and for my taste some have recommend the Alpine Type R? But from what I've heard this isn't a very high quality subwoofer. Now for the AMP I'm wondering how this all works together and if it is best to get high enough RMS to power the speakers through it with the subwoofer too or how that is supposed to work. I'd like the best sound coming out of both.
Any information on say dynomatting and if it's worth it would be greatly appreciated or if you've ever done audio to a Subaru.
