Will indexing always be necessary? I'd sure like to avoid having to wait for it to have to index 30gigs worth of tunes.

...but w/out indexing, you couldn't, for example, play all songs from an artist, yes?

I've got room for a double DIN, but it's not really necessary...concerned about security.

as for price, let's keep it under $600.
