Recommend a Home Theatre System

What I'm saying is that's like going on a high performance auto forum and asking about what subcompacts are available for under $5k //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I know where youre coming from, and I almost went the same direction when i first replied to this post.

But this is NOT a high end audio forum. when I first joined this forum I was just out of high shool, just purchased some jensen woofers and knew I wanted something better and this is what I stumbled upon on the interweb.

There are alot of people on here looking to get a passable system going, wether it be in their car of house, with their spare cash, they arent necessarily looking to save up for months to get a top of the line audiophile class setup.

I just felt the need to say something because i have watched the evolution of this forum over the last four years, and i feel like its going down a wierd road, especially the home audio section, mostly thanks to you and joe-tama (former b&w_ee)

What's weird about wanting to have a broader horizon than what's sold at Best Buy or the like? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Considering there are people here who have spent more than I have on my "weird" tastes to basically play subbass in rap music very loudly, I didn't think what I said was that out of line.

Frankly, if the discussion here is limited to what mainstream receiver/HTIB/mini-monitor to go with for movies, I'll move on to somewhere else.

Its not at all limited to low end equipment, but the poster clearly and sternly stated his budget, and it was immediately disregarded.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I think you know my point here... im trying to encourage open mindedness... just in a different direction.

"The best" is not always best for everybody.

I see what you're saying but if you want to draw an analogy ... think about the poster that comes in here asking what is better: PYLE, PYRAMID, or BOSS. If a car audio application requires a minimum budget before anything is worth buying, then home audio is no different. People are willing to spend $2000s on car audio but still want to run a $200 HTIB system? It's not much different than car audio--you get what you pay for.

I don't need a $2000 home theatre system to enjoy my movies. I'm not looking for the best sound known to man. If you think that it is impossible to achieve decent sound quality from a $200 HT system, then take your higher standards to a different thread.

These posts remind me why I stopped posting in this forum. If you don't want the best then you get shit on.

Dude...your taking this way to serisouly...

$200 isnt going to get you much more than a very shoddy sony, phillips, or zenith system which will do nothing for your goals of an HTIB. Why blow $200 and be pissed when you can save twice that and at least invest in something alittle better...?

200$ will get you a totally usable audio system, it will not be top of the line, but it will sure as hell sound about 100X better than your TV speakers.

Your analogy just straight up doesn't apply here.

Thats just bull, have you ever used a 200$ HTIB? They are totally usable, and downright amazing to an untrained ear.

No chance you can save for 3-4 months to scrape up $800 to get somthing almost worth keeping..?? I am no audio snob but **** man... $200... wow... I think my low end cables, wire and surge protector for my HT ran more than $200...

Maybe he'll be going into a dorm soon, and instead of running the risk of having his shit broken or stolen, and be out a lot of money, he just asks for his money back. And for all intents and purposes, 200 dollars will be more than adequate for general movie watching, or videogames. Maybe he has other hobbies, and the home audio isn't as big of a concern as those, including price and how well he could hear a difference.

As Flip and others mentioned, 200 dollar HTIB>>>>>>>>shit>>>>>>tv speakers. Hell, my 600 HTIB>>>>>>TV speakers. I know it's not the best, and I know the poster knows his options aren't the best. To some, it's called prioritizing and needs. I'd love to have a 50 inch plasma and McIntosh/B&W for my living room. However, the job market in my area. and my needs, outweigh this dream.

I highly respect members like JimJ and joetama as they do have a vast amount of knowledge. You guys just need to work with standards the poster asking for has, not your own. *shrug*

I really enjoy my pioneer sound system. Its made specifically for my xbox360. The remote even has the xbox guide button as well as the A, B, X, Y buttons. I get compliments all the time. If you own a 360, i highly recommend it. It freakin comes with the optical out cable to connect the xbox to the system. I know mine is by no means the best here, but it matches my tv, xbox360, and the remote is badass.

I've heard about that one.. isn't it like well under 200$ too? like 149 or something?

I was tempted just because of the remote.

I'll say this. I am /really/ happy with my Polk R50 towers which can be had at Outpost.com for about sixty to seventy bucks each.

I'll bet you could do

2x R50

1x Onkyo

1x Sub

For $300 and while you may not have surround, you will have /good sound./

^^Truth. I only really enjoy the surround sound in a few videogames. Halo, CoD, and the music games. Everything else just has subtle nuances that are nice, but I wouldn't demand having them.

^ absolutely. surround is most prominent in gaming, and indispensible when you need to know which way that UAV-Jamming bastard is coming from.

OP, I could sell you four of the channels from my Onkyo HTIB for little money.
