I've only had about two systems and both had rear stage. I am wondering if rear stage is really that important and are there any advantages/disadvatages to having or not having it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

I don't have any rear speakers at all. I don't miss them one bit and my imaging is better because of it. Without processing specific to the rear speakers, a basic left and right front stage setup will sound more accurate do to less phase cancellation and image better due to no sound being localized in the rear.

There is a lot of personal preference involved on whether or not to have rear speakers. From a purely technical standpoint with the goal of recreating a live music venue, rear speakers are not a good idea. Some people don't care about proper imaging (their perogative and their system) and want to hear sound coming from all around them and install rear components and run as much power to them as their front speakers. They also don't run any processing. These people like the way the setup sounds but IMO, the fidelity of these systems are lacking in both in regards to freq response and definitely in regards to imaging and staging.

if you have alot of power going to your front speakers you wont needem but if you dont runing a set of rear speakers off your head unit helps alot to get more volume,in my set up i have a set of comps geting 75 watts rms per side but with my sub back there with some music they were geting drowned out so i added some rear speakers put a baffel behind them so the would not affect the bass ranem off the hu and faded them to match the front and my system got a lil louder.

I don't have a killer system like alot of you on here have. But I do prefer a rear stage probably for the fact I don't own a badazz set of comps and mid drivers up front. Just what you read in my sig. 2 coax up front and 2 in the back doors and then 6x9 in the very back in the rear panels which I added not too long ago. And of course the subs and tweets. But if you put it in perspective of having it sound like a live venue then yes I guess you would'nt need a rear stage. Growing up in the early 80's and still today I'm a big concert freak. Man I could'nt tell you even close to half of the shows I've seen. But I have always prefered music from the studio and cranking it up on a loud azz jam sytem. Live music just did'nt sound the same. But the excitement of seeing them live and loud was phenominal.

To get to the morel of the story is some of the best sounding live acts I've seen had some sort of rear fill. Deep Purple, man the have some serious surround going on. Rush, Triumph the Who they all have a rear fill in there shows that will just blow you away. They are the one that sound just like there album (cd). So I guess thats what kinda edges my taste for having just enough rear fill for the sound I like. I don't turn up the rear that much but just enough to make my SUV sound full. But one day I may up-grade to some sick comps and not need the rears to complete my listening satisfaction. I rambled long enough. It's my Birthday, Peace out!

Rear fill is a matter of personal taste. I enjoy rear fill. It hasn't hurt my system a bit. Having a 4 door now and having passengers plays into that too. I will agree with most though in saying that front stage is most important. You can't underestamate that fact. I run less thump (subs) than alot, though it does bump nice, and my alpine 6x9's help out with that. Also adds nice highs all over. Just as a general rule of thumb, spend your money on the front stage for your main sound and you will be fine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
