Rear speaker choice

Hey guys,

I am upgrading my audio system in my '13 mustang.

I recently bought a Morel Tempo 5 comp set for the front, however I am not sure on what I should put in the back. Should I go for the tempo 5 comp set as well or add a coax or even the 5x7 coax set?

Is that for a specific reason? Like a second comp set in the rear would be too much?

I would go for a cheap coaxial set by the same company, so perhaps a Morel Maximo.

Why not components? Well if you have stock locations for separate tweeters and woofers, then I guess you could install component speaker there. However, in a true SQ system the rear speakers are used to enhance ambient sounds, so they don't need to be very high performance speakers. If you want more SPL, then go ahead and install better speakers in the rear.

However, with a proper install, you can get the same imaging with just fronts. It all depends on the install.

I have a set of Maximo coaxial 6x9s if you want to buy them, OP. I decided that I'd rather just have fronts. Most of the time, components on the back are unnecessary. In a Mustang, I think they'd really ruin your sound stage and imaging.

If the vehicle was a sedan with speakers in the doors, with the tweeters aimed very far away from you, it wouldn't be so bad.

Simply put, the extra money on a rear comp set won't yield the typical results u get from doing comps upfront so, IMO, it's a waste of money.

@MisterDeadeye; the 6x9 doesnt fit without adjustments etc in a mustang (6x8) tnx though.

The whole purpose of comps is to elevate the high range frequencies which cannot travel as far as mids and lows. Rear speakers are already at ear level on most vehicles so no real gain.
