rear fill question.

i am running a set of infinity kappa components in front with an alpine mrp f240 bridged into 2 ch giving them each 100 watts rms

but i dont have a sub so i was wondering, i have a set of reference 6.5" 2-way speakers (6002i) could i disable the tweets on them and use them for a little more mid/bass re-inforcement in the rear deck?

or would that just mess stuff up as far as sound stage goes?

thanks in advance,

in all honesty i've never tried midbass from the rear deck. I have had midbass from the back seat, with a pair of koda's in about .6 cubes each, and truthfully i think it was better than not having them at all. but as far as soundstaging goes, i would certainly try fiberglassing them into the doors or kick panels, it just sounds nicer listening to them

well i dont really have much room in the rear deck, i have an 01 sentra so it is kinda close quarters.

i was just figuring since i have them i might as well use them.

but i am also looking at a pair of 6.5" "subwoofers"

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=264-832

they look pretty darn good, they are the right size for my deck opening, and they run off of 4 ohms which i can power off my current amp.

make some small enclosured under the deck for them, i dont think they like ib.

that should add some considerable thump to my music.

and unfortunately i am not able to fiberglass the doors because my parents would flip (and i have no glass experience)

or make any kick panels since there is little room because of the body computers behind the kicks.

I agree on this, as far as imaging goes you want all your sound comming from the front besides your bass (subs). So I wouldn't even bother putting them in the back, if you want to make some kick panels or fiberglass the doors and put a 6.5" midbass driver there that is fine.

i would but i dont have any room, behind the panels are my abs and some other body computers, along with my x-overs for my kappas so they would have to stick out alot so i would lose my dead pedal and i would go crazy.

but who knows maybe i might move the computer and x-overs up into the dash a bit and see if that will give me enough room

but that still leaves me with no experience in glassing at all.

maybe i could get my dad to help.

i will see about this if i can.

thanks,

I agree on this, as far as imaging goes you want all your sound comming from the front besides your bass (subs)...
EVERYTHING should sound as if it was right in front of you, even your bass (subs). Subs, when used correctly, will produce bass which is non-directional, unlike midbass which is very directional. If installed properly you shouldn't be able to tell where the bass is coming from... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

so if i was gonna make some kicks, should i leave the mid from the kappas in the doors and get some other one for the kick.

what about that little "sub" i linked above

it looks pretty good and doesnt want a ton of power but i am not sure if i could squeeze .5 cu/ft down there, how big (volume) are most kick pods?

i would kinda like to go with those tangs if i could fit them, so i wouldnt need a sub in my trunk because i use my trunk alot and would rather not have a big ol box in there.

i believe those would provide enough bass for me.

or should i do the opposite and put the kappa mids in the kicks and the tang's in the doors?

how do you know what to do for volume for kicks with mid drivers that dont have any specs listed?

sry for all the questions, i am just starting out into the wonderful world of diy car audio. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Omni-directional, non-directional... Either way I don't know where it's coming from. Same diff... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

i say go for it. and if you aren't a dedicated front stage man, try it with the tweeter. i've found that i like to be immersed in music, with the front stage being dominant. being surrounded by sound draws into the music more, especially on slow jams; and then when the low bass note hits.......eargasmic. u should get a sub though.

i wouldnt say i am a dedicated front stage man yet... but i think i am leaning towards it.

i went ahead and put the references in the rear deck w/o the tweeter and they still have too much mid/high.

to me it doesnt sound as good, and i also re arranged the tweets for my kappas.

i put them on the dash pointed at my head instead of in the stock a pillar location, i think they sound a lot better like this.

and i think i can hear a difference in the sound when i turn the deck's internal amp off and just run the front from the rca's

but i could just be hearing things.

i think i want to get some mid bass driver, either the tang (if i can fit the depth in my door) or some other one and try my hand at some kick pods for my kappa mids.

hmm i just found the correct mounting depth for that tang and it is just under 4 inches, which i thought it was more like 5 1/8

so i might be able to fit them in the door after all.

now i just gotta find out about getting the fiberglass done for the mids and the tweets.

this just might work after all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
