has anyone cut a port in their rear deck to increase bass?? I have a 4 door '08 Accord sedan and was thinking of cutting a hole and making a port in my rear deck for my bass to come more into the car. I have heard some people swear by it. does it really work and increase bass alot??? any suggestions or tips about it?? thanks

I've built a box with 4 4" ports coming up through the deck (subs firing foward into the car), it sounds pretty good, better than i thought. nice flat response

this box was tuned to 33hz

this might be the only way i can do my next setup. i dont think i will be able to face both my subs and ports forward with it all sealed off. so i think im going to have to seal my subs off firing into the cabin and my aero ports through my rear deck....

so i would also like to hear the pros and cons of doing this

the box i built like that was for 2 SPL SPLW 15"s (basically P.A. MOFO's) and a SPL 5500D (maybe 2000-2500rms). I was impressed, but with better equipment im sure it would sound real good. but that is just one instance and might not have the same results for everyone.

Yea, if i do what im planning on doing next summer I will have a port in the rear deck firing up...but my subs wont be in the trunk so it isnt the same situation.

I guess what im trying to say is if you have a box in the trunk and this port isnt a part of the box, i wouldnt do it unless youre trying to make a bandpass out of your trunk. But if youre talking about sealing off the opening into the trunk (behind the rear seats) and making that a wall with your subs in it and make a box behind them and the port in the rear window is that boxes port, then yes I would agree with doing that.

Ive done it by taking out the 6x9s and that way it sounds way louder. I didnt see any issues of cancelation. If your backseat does not fold down, i say remove the speakers in the deck if you have them there and try it out. Also, deadening helps bunches.

heres a few pics,

we didnt have a plan really, so we designed as we went to make everything fit.

only pic i have of the actual ports, kinda blurry (it was lit with neons from the inside)

pic of two port before the boxes were put in the car and mounted together

back of the box, came out pretty good, it still needs to be finished on the outside

The ones I've heard sound great, this is a bandpass, here's pics in a '96 Impala SS.

appriecate it man! I was so busy thinking about it that I didn't even think I could look it up with a multimeter.

I would try a pair of Bass Blockers on the rear speakers. I always place them on Coax. speakers generally, Should help quite a bit I like PAC ones...

I’ve tried it in 3 different vehicles and multiple locations. Rear deck is best for me. Unless it’s a midbass I don’t want anything in the rear...
