I remember on an old amp of mine... the power and ground were in opposite order than they are on most amps... and I hooked it up backwards. Make sure you're not as retarded as me! haha.

OP... you could also take a DMM and ohm check your power wire to ground ( make sure you check on the amp side of the fuse first, most likely your short is on that side, otherwise your wire would be getting really hot really quick) ... if you get a really low ohm reading, you have a short

alright sorry for taking a while to respond ill be taking the whole strand out and checking it today. if it is just the wire could i wrap it with electrical tape or would that not be safe?

you will want to find out why, then remedy that. and then tape up the wire.

Ideally you'd replace the run... but in reality, it should be fine just being taped and covered up.
