So im about to upgrade my system subs. im planning on getting either Fi SSD 15s or American Bass XFL 15's. If i go with the 15's not sure on the 12's yet. Im deciding on which to pick, either 2 12's in a 4th order bandpass, or 2 15's ported to around 31hz (loving those lows).

This is for a daily setup, so most people will obviously say the bandpass for the broad bandwidth. But i have heard they are typically are for output and play the high notes better than lows. I will be upgrading my power here soon, but for now they will stay on that SQ1200. I will be building the box and here the 4th order bandpass boxes are a bit harder and easier to mess up on. I have been researching and the only thing that throws me off is the tuning part.

This will go in the rear part of my cab in the my dodge ram so it will literally be right behind me. (thought about a wall, maybe in the future).

Which will be louder?

what are the pros and cons for going with one over the other?

I've done both. Actually still have my 15 box the ported can get louder if done right. But won't have a large bandwidth. I run a 4th order now. It's gets loud and low. But plays the upper 60-80 hertz notes that my ported box wouldn't

What do you mean "if done right."?? like how the box is built? i was thinking around 7.5 cubes and that tuned to 31.5hz and 14.1sqinches of port area per ft. Those where some measurements and some plans i threw together earlier. So you would say that going for lots of output for the lows i should go ported?

probably becasue they driver wasn't designed for it or it was just a bad box design. ported drivers can actually have a wider bandwidth then 4th order bandpass and is more efficent.

both can be designed to play low. 4th order is pretty efficent and you can have better results becasue of the lower chances of cancellation. if i had to design a box for lowend id do a ported design. thing is you have to choose a woofer that fits your limitation and expectations.

BTW the FI SSDs are great woofers and perfect for what you want.. 7.5 tuned to 30 with 100in^2 of port area should do nicely..
perfect, so i will go with the ported. maybe do a walled 4th order in the future. how would you say they would compare to the American Bass XFL's? those are what i am deciding between, i have heard great things about both. is it one of those "cant go wrong with either" situation?
