Here's how the idmax v4's curve will look like in a few variations sealed and ported.

They all look like good curves but as you can see with the ported box, there's a nice bump in the range where most music will be. So basically the ported box can do everything a sealed box can and more except in the 10 hz range but most music will not even go down that low anyway. If the 30-40hz range is too much bass for you, you can EQ it down to make a flatter response too. This sub can work very well in an Infinite Baffle install as well if you wanna save space and weight.

I've always liked these subs but never owned one. I think ID makes solid quality products. Maybe someday ill own an IDMAX

The max always seemed like the type x to me. A sub based around sound quality but it's not that great at sound quality considering other sound quality drivers in its price point. Just a good sounding daily use sub.

Thank you for all the input everyone. I haven't pulled the trigger yet because I've been taking the time to consider everyone's advice and take a look at some of the competition.

One such message said that buying an IDMAX means that I'm paying for branding and overhead because the sub itself is really only worth half the price. I was told that for less money, I can get more product. I've been looking at all the available options. Does anyone here have any recent experience with Stereo Integrity in general, or, more specifically, with the HST12 subwoofer?

Stereo Integrity's website claims the optimal enclosure for this sub is small/sealed and that it is a "low frequency monster" which would leave me to believe that it is more of an SQ oriented sub. Thoughts?

Any input on stereo integrity? I'm also now looking at the sundown x12 as a possibility. Again, SQ is the primary goal, 1200w at either 1 or 2 ohms, limited space for install, box can be sealed or ported, it really just depends on the sub. I am looking for consistent response and a sub that can keep up with fast beats.

...Or go with the IDMAX12 V4 as originally planned?

Yes it is true, the IDMAX is overpriced from their name. I remember way back when the original version was around, I don't remember how much it costed but it was probably around half the price it is now. Gradually over time their newer versions kept getting more and more expensive. Many of my friends back in high school ran them ported and they sounded awesome. I don't agree with their price now but it is a good sounding sq sub nonetheless. I've never heard the Stereo Integrity sub but I hear they do well in a small sealed box. The W6 is a good candidate but it's just as overpriced as the idmax. Morel Ultimo SC has great reviews but it's alittle over $500. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these unless you care more about getting the most bang for buck. Dayton HO 12 DVC is a great sq sub that's fairly priced at like about $150. It may not be american built but it does a great job at reproducing music accurately and all while being in very small enclosure. Whatever you get, build a custom box around the sub and your music tastes and you should have yourself a very nice sounding system.

Thanks everyone for the input. Also, particular thanks to you blazian87. I ended up ordering the HO 12 DVC. I decided to use the money I saved (by skipping the IDMAX) for a quality custom enclosure. I was thinking about building my own originally but have decided to defer to a pro instead. Any recommendations for box builders (on or off the forum) that have good reputations for good work at reasonable prices?

Also, in my amp manual, it suggests mounting amps away from enclosures. I have to assume this is because of the flex. Is this as much of an issue with ported enclosures or more of a sealed box issue? I was going to plan on mounting the amps to the enclosure but now am unsure. Sub is Dayton HO 12 DVC, in a (yet to be built) ported enclosure w/ 700w from a clarion dpx monoblock amp.

The Dayton ho is one of the best bang for the buck subs on the market so nice choice. I will defer on box builders for someone more knowledgeable about who is on the forums currently for that. In mounting the amp it isn't a good thing to mount amps to sub enclosures or any surface that will have common excessive vibrations so if you can find a better spot that would be best. If not there are ways you can get around it such as using isolator pads between the box and the amp to absorb the vibrations.
