I ordered my Pioneer REV 6x9's from them originally. They listed "95 available". After the sale, when they said they had none in addition to saying they would either keep my money for an unspecified amount of time or let me have a credit for something else, I asked for a full refund. As far as I was concerned, the deal ended when they didn't have for sale what they claimed.
Phone calls made to their listed number were answered by an automated answering service and not returned. Emails with them went nowhere. I then checked into their feedback, which had a rating of 99.5% at the time to see what's up. It turned out almost all complaints were similar to mine with multiple complaints every week and in addition to that, they had over 1200 "feedback withdrawn" as this company engages in retaliatory feedback for the negs they get. Their Big Lie is when they say "Call us!" in their feedback response and that leads to nothing of course.
So here's what I did. I called up my credit card company and disputed the charge. I also sent off a report to Square Trade to report the unethical sales practices of this company. In addition I got online to find the Missouri AG's office and sent off a complaint as well as asking for a refund.
What happened? The speakers were sent off after I asked for the refund and they did arrive but way too late for my purposes. Since that was the first thing I had in hand, I opened the box and set the speakers aside. Next to occur was that I got a call from some East Indian guy from my credit card company about the charge dispute. He wasn't in my corner at all but a week later I got an email from PayPal saying a chargeback had occurred. A few days later a snailmail came from my credit card company saying the chargeback had taken place. Yesterday the Missouri AG's office sent me a snailmail saying they would try to contact Hi-Fi and that I was to allow the AG's office 30 days to get a response from HiFi. So far HiFi has not made a move I am aware of and for that matter neither has Square Trade, which appears to be a total farce.
I'll keep the speakers until someone from HiFi says we want them back and then I'll tell them that's fine but they will have to pay the return shipping charges or else send an agent all the way to Coos Bay OR to pick them up. If everything just slips through the cracks, then I got a pair of Pioneer REV-series 6x9's to dispose of. All I wanted is my money refunded and HiFi could have made it easy by apologizing for not having what they listed and simply given me the refund. They decided playing games with me was more important. Now I have my money back and the speakers, so there!
I figured going with the disputed charge would lead to a quicker resolution than going through PayPal or
eBay. So far that looks to be correct. I also figured once my credit card kicked PayPal, that PayPal would wind up dinging HiFi's account and finally I would have HiFi's undivided attention. Will it work out that way? I don't know but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Like I said in my last phone message to them, I was going to get my money back one way or the other. Now they can deal with PayPal, the Missouri AG's office, Square Deal's inquiries and anything else I can find to fling their way to make up for their shady business practices.
