RE8 vs DD1008( review)

RE 8 vs DD1008:

THE ENCLOSURE: 0.9 cu tuned to 32

The day my RE 8 came in i was very impressed with its built quality. small yet angry..

On the other hand the DD1008 had a little bit of meaner look...

On to the test. The enclosure was 0.9 cu tuned to 32 runnin off a 120 plate amp at home.

The RE i have to say has a descent sound to it considering the type of enclosure it lived in, it did pretty well. Definately picks up and has a quicker response than the DD1008.

I was quite dissapointed with the SPL and SQ from the RE 8, i think i set the bar too high. The track Da blow by little Jon does Shake the house. And coming for XXX18's thats a good sign. I think running an RE 8 sealed is definately the better choice though, cause is does actully sound quite good.

DD1008.

Now after not too happy results with the RE. i screwed out the drywalls and in went the DD1008. WHOA.

The DD1008 defitely is a more aggresive driver. Hits harder, lower. The SQ is not really on the same level as the RE 8 but still sounds ok. I stuffed the box and closed up the port and the DD 1008 really began to lack. DD1008 i would say in the spl king of 8's. It will rumble off the right power and enclosure. i was only running 120 rms. this thing can take 300 easy. But i would not reccommend sealed for this mini beast.

So if running sealed or a smaller ported enclosure and love to fine tune for SQ then the RE 8 is the choice to go for

If you want a more aggressive driver/more output in vented enclosure then the DD1008 is for you.

You know people on here are going to come up with any excuse for the RE8."Oh your box was too big, oh your tuning was too high, oh you had the box placed wrong, oh you had the air too cold, oh you forgot to change the cat shitter, etc.

Actually, I'm not sticking up for the RE8. I'm just going by what I have read about tuning frequencies and home audio. I am still heavily considering an RE8 for my home audio setup in the near future, or getting an RL-i 8 if the price is right. However, I would definitely run it sealed in my setup.
