re-tuning a box?

i currently have a custom box tuned to 38hz i was wondering if theres a way i can tune it down a little. it is just slot port, so im thinking i can just add wood to the port to make it smaller, will that work?

You will lose port area. Less port are + same length port = lower tuning. But, less port area = //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif .

If you have room outside the box, have you considered building the port out from the box to lengthen it while retaining current port area?

I'd just build a new one with interchangeable ports.

less port area means less air moving out so it won't get as loud
