** I've searched and researched this topic, but I'm looking for opinions, so don't be mad lol **

Hey guys, to keep it short and sweet, I'm upgrading my system a bit with my summer income. I'm looking to add some more low-end "oompf" to my sub stage upgrading from my HO10. I absolutely love the 10 and will be using it over the winter or in my dorm room. However, with summer in full swing, I'm missing that extra bass and low-end that the 10 lacks.

So in summary, I'm looking for more low-end, while retaining an SQ focus with clean, accurate response. I'm not looking for sloppy, ground pounding bass, just a bit more emphasis on the low-end. Sub will be powered with 600wRMS.

RE SE15 = $200 shipped

Dayton HO15 = $178 shipped

Which would you pick?

Here's the SPL plot for both drivers in comparison to my HO10:

SE in Red

HO15 in White

HO10 in Blue

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: In addition, I've already contemplated the Fi Q and SSA Icon, but have narrowed my options to these two. Both fit into my budget perfectly and are proven drivers... I am open to opinions though!

never heard the HO15 but as i said earlier tonight... if you want something that will make you have an orgasm, nut in your pants, and bitch slap rosie o'donnel then you DEFINITELY want the SE... it sounds pretty **** beautiful.

yeah if you'll wait about a week or two i'll have my NINe.1 back from dB-r and I'll get everything installed and show you a vid of what a pair of 12" se's sound like (and the flex they can do) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif on 600 RMS each.

HAHAHAHA! That euphamism BY ITSELF may have just sold me lol... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

We'll see what my paycheck looks like tomorrow... I clocked 70 hours so it should be completely in range all inclusive. The only reason I'm even contemplating the HO15 is because I have the 10 and love it in terms of SQ, just not output for windows down driving.

i was running a single 12" at first and on its own it was loud as shit off my 1206. this is in a truck though, it actually sounded much better in my buddies car... idk, maybe the seats kinda filter air movement since its ported. occasionally i'll take out my huge *** ported box (no back seat in my truck) and put just one of my se's in a sealed box and leave it in there for a week or two.... god it sounds so good (and loud). ported or sealed really, just great all around.

Yea I was thinking about possibly running sealed, however, I have the trunk space necessary to run ported and I'll be holding onto my HO10 for winter use since it has the perfect amount of output for windows up. So I figured I may as well go all out on the 15 ported for the most amount of output I can get... I also have heard that a ported sub will extend lower and off less power as well and I am limited to 600RMS.

The SE is a gorgeous sub though, the motor structure, basket and all, IMO... so I'm thinking about making the sides and front of my enclosure out of 3/8-1/2" plexiglass to show it off a bit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

its pretty all right. and i'm thinking once you hear the SE you wont want to put that ho back in there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ported off 600 rms will be loud as shit i can tell you that.

Haha, well that would be something I'd decide afterward... I'm not only looking for loud though, I still want to retain the accuracy and musicality of the HO. I don't really want to bounce down the street, though on a lot of my rap and techno, I do feel like the experience would be much more fulfilling with and more powerful low-end //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If the SE is almost every bit as clean as the HO, I'll keep it in there year round, if not, I'll swap it out for the HO in the winter and use the SE in my dorm or home. Either way, I'll use both! lol

SE is better suited for sealed, HO is better suited for ported.
How do you figure? I've heard great things about both in either application...

Not to mention, when modeling both drivers, WinISD automatically chooses a vented enclosure as the optimal enclosure for either driver...

How do I figure? Look at the specs...
SE: Higher Vas & Higher Qts, as well as greater Xmax = better suited for large sealed enclosure

HO: Lower Qts, and lower Xmax = better suited for ported

And I agree that the HO will do nicely sealed, but 12mm linear excursion capability will be the limiting factor.
