Okay so here's the deal:
A friend recently got rid of his car and didn't want his stereo equipment anymore. He gave me an Alpine MRP-M1000 amp which has 1000W RMS at 2ohm and 600W RMS at 4ohm.
I didn't want to buy a sub that was too expensive (especially since I only paid $100 for the amp) so I went for a Memphis Audio M3 12". I believe its rated at 400w RMS but the guy who owned the local stereo shop said that he has cranked a lot more into an M3 than 400w.
I have everything set up and have my amp tuned to 80hz for the LPF, 0 db for the bass boost, and about 1/4-2/5 way up on the gain. However, even with the relatively low power going to the sub, it will cut out when I turn the volume on my head unit up. And when I say up I don't mean full blast, I mean a little past halfway. As soon as I turn off the car and turn it back on at a lower volume it works fine.
What could be causing my sub to do this?
