RE SE12 and JL 500/1v2 Review(Short)

I finally got around to installing my SE12 yesterday and my first impressions are... impressive. I've got it running off of a JL 500/1v2 in a 1.2ft3 sealed enclosure. The thing that stood out the most was the low end extension, the SE12 nails them. Sound quality is impressive with no distortion that I can hear. After adjusting the EQ settings on the amp and headunit I also learned that with just the one 12, it gets suprisingly loud for being in a sealed box. The JL 500/1v2 takes some getting used to with the EQ controls and......funky gain controls.... but it seems to be very clean power with decently sized balls and it runs very cool.

Thumbs up for RE:D

Not a JL fan, but the SE series hands down is an awesome line. They do get loud but retain great SQ.

When I switch over from SPL to doing SQ here in the next couple of years, a pair of SE 12's will be shipping to my home.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Although the JL amp is nice, I probably could have done better with the $339 I spent on it. But it is a very clean sounding amp.

Well, I had to turn the gain up to about 75%-80% and about 1-2db of bass boost to get it movin well. Even with the gain at 100% and a 20hz test tone the sub seemed to ask for more.........but I cut it back down to be on the safe side. My next addition is def gonna be 4chan amp with comp. in the front and coax in the rear, the vocals get drowned out. Plus it's in a Scion TC hatchback. When I get a new head unit I'm sure I'll have to back the gain down, right now it's a decent stock pioneer headunit with some cool EQ controls but I'm just tapped into the rear speakers using a line converter.

You could have spent $26 more and bought one of my 1000/1 I'm selling!

I have a 15" SE in a 2 cu. ft. sealed enclosure with just 150w RMS, and it sounds great. I have a Sundown SAE-1000D, so I wish it had the power handling of the SX with the sealed box capability. Are you going to add another amp with a second SE?

I give my SE15 1000watts in a 3 cube sealed. power that sucka!

that amp is under rated, you should around 600 to 700watts from that thing.
If you think the highly regulated JL Audio amp will deliver much more than 500 watts, I want some of what you are smoking! That amp is so regulated, I would be shocked if it made more than 550 watts at ANY impedance that it is able to run at.

I'm not sure what I'm gonna do just yet, I'm thinking I should take care of the vocals first.
