RE re12 power handling??

Looking at a pair of RE re12s for behind the back seat of my crewcab truck. Looking for kinda loud, very clean sound. Pioneer TS-D1720C 6.75" components in the front doors on a Profile AP1000. The subs will be in a 1.4 cu ft, sealed box. REs specs (bottom of page)

say 175w thermal power handling, is that a conservative rating? I'm thinking about another AP1000, 240x2rms

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=ap1000&i=489AP1000

or an AP1200, 300x2rms

as a sub amp. Don't want to scorch the subs though, so what do you guys think about my plans? Will 300x2 be too much for the pair of re12s in a 1.4 cu ft sealed box? 240x2?

Any other sub suggestions? 1.75 cu ft max, 6 1/2" max depth, less than $200 shipped for a pair (or a single for a ported box..) to run on either amp above.

I ran around 225w on my re8's and it was enough for them to find bottom in their recommended ported box.

I think the 240x2 amp on them sealed would be a good matchup.

If I kept the gains low on the AP1200 the subs should survive OK in a sealed box?

I'm leaning to the bigger amp for headroom and future upgrades..

maybe better outputthe re series sound good too.

I had trouble with the re series in a sealed box, they take WAYY more power ported.
That seems backwards..

I've always heard that most subs take more power in a sealed enclosure. Is it just something weird about the re?
