new avalanches are about 300 from Ascendant Audio but if you shop around youll probably find them cheaper.

Treat an avalanche right and it'll give you everything you want it to...

EDIT: well holy hell, there was like 6 posts in the time I posted that, hmm. To the last couple, the avalanche cannot be picked up any more new, they are not selling them. You'll have to find used, and they can be had for around 250 I reckon.

Totally install dependent. From my experience though, the avalanche is louder to the ear than an SX from power ranging 400-800ish watts. At 1100 watts the SX is a bit louder, but nothing substantial.
