Hey i got 2 of these subs, the 175watt versions. I got 175watts going to each and they sound good but they feel like they can sound better. I was wondering if it would be ok to overpower these subs a little, if so whats the most you would over power them for a everyday driver?

what amp do you have pushing them? i havnt heard of an amp that does such little power in a monoblock configuration. id give them about 500 per pair or something. just get a good amp and be careful with the amp. also, what enclosure are then in?

Oh no the amp does 500watts bridged and 600 at 2ohms. But i have the gain to 37.4V to get 350watts. So the 500watts would be good to push them at? They are in a ported box 1.5 cubic feet per chamber@35hz.

ahhhhg, i take it you see the gains with a multiemeter, yeah your under powering them. set the gain till the subs starts to pop and distort, then back it off a bit.

Thanks man, Yeah i set it with a DMM. I always just assumed it was set right but i never really looked at the subs while i was playing them. I did that today and i turned the head unit up to 50/62 is usually what i listen to it at everyday, highest 53/62. So i turned it up to 50 and opened the trunk and looked at them and to my surprise they were hardly even moving with the gain like at 45%. So yeah i just started turning the gain up a little, even all the way on they still didnt sound distorted or anything but i didnt keep it on full, i have is at about 65-70% now and bass boost off, well i never had that on anyway. On the head unit i have everything on flat and eq-L is on -2

are they wired at 2 ohms? a true 600 watts rms to those subs would be too much. not that the amp won't work, but when you said you turned the gains up all the way, and that the amp does 600 watts at 2 ohms, that confuses me a bit. 600 watts is too much for those to be cranking the gain all the way, and not over drive them.

No they are wired at 4ohms. The amp is 500watts rms bridged@ 4ohms. But it is a cheap insignia amp so most likely it is over rated too? The gain is not all the way up, i just tried it for a second and backed it up to about 70%. I will probly upgrade to a good amp later when i get some new subs, i think ima go with the Re sr's since they have the same box specs so i'll just have to swap em in with these ones and then ill get a good amp.

ohh yeah those are over rated pretty badly. youd probably get 300 at 4. you could just get a powerful amp and itll sound much better. then see if you want swap to diff. subs. if they are wired at 4 now, get an amp that does power at 1 ohm so you can wire them to 1 for the power.
