RE 18" MT

Hey guys..first post here.

I have the opportunity to buy an 18" MT with 1.4ohm dvc's.

I am going for spl 100%.

I have 2 1500 watt amplifiers that I can run to this thing. They are only 2 ohm stable. I can pick it up for a pretty good price. What size box would be best for this(I have a LOT of room). What do you guys think? Also, what can I wire this sub too(ohm load)?

.7 or 2.8 ohm I believe.

call RE and they'll tell you. but I am expecting it to be a pretty big box. probably anywhere from 5-10 ft. ^3

That's what I figured. A 10ft^3 box is no problem. Does anyone still do box plans? He wants to build the box himself to save cash...but I cant build something that big..let alone design it with bracing etc lol

3kw should pound like hell.

jeez, 800w in my 10 ported 1.2 cubes @ ~37hz pounds like crazy...

i cant imagine what 3kw to an 18 in 10 cubes would do! i say go for it. you will turn heads for sure. just remember, this wont be no daily driver, and it will have to have some BEEFY electrical for sure.

I thought Jmac quit doing plans because people were screwing him by giving them out...

Yah, the electrical will be decided when he figures out what he is doing. And yes, it will be a daily driver LOL.

He will adjust the gains accordingly at a comp/daily driving. Hopefully he decides to tune it low, so it's SOMEWHAT reasonable.

As for the price..I think he told me 350-400? It was somewhere around there.

Id use more than 10^3's...If he's going to driving around with it, Id get the XXX for sure.

Ive been reading that you cant get the 18's from RE until they figure something out with their baskets.

He can have the MT now..as opposed to waiting who knows how long.

Those amps should be fine for 1.4 ohm each for burps, anyways. Once impedance rises they should be around 2 ohms and still put out good power for burpage.

Well, ask if those 1.4 ohm coils are nominal impendance or Re impendance...b/c they could be 1.4 ohm coils, but in box they may be nominal 2ohm. Companies sometimes make the resistance lower to account for the change in impendance boxes may make. peace

1.4 is a dcr coil reading. After impedance rise kicks in, you'll be over 2 ohms in most situations.

As for a box, anywhere from 7-12 cubes should do it.
