i just bought 2 subs off these forums and one coil is giving me an unusually high reading of 23 ??????? im getting between 3 and 6 ohm for the other coils

That coil may be bad -- try hooking it up by itself and see if the sub plays.

Ouch. Yeah, if there's any under spider venting, it can get in by the voicecoil and fuck shit up.
