RCA to Aux issue

I have an 87 corvette which a previous owner put an Alpine stereo in, its an older one with CD only, and i would like an aux. Picked up an rca to aux adapter. The stereo has two red rca ports on one side and two white ports on the other. When plugging the adapter into the bottom or top two ports, no sound. When the top red and bottom white is used, sound only comes from one of the speakers, when its reversed (bottom red and top white) sound comes from the other speaker. Additionally, volume can only be adjusted from my phone, and it does not get loud enough. Any idea how to fix this? Bear with me, i am not experienced with this stuff

I am sure that two of those rcas are output, while the other two are input. By your testing, you already verified that both inputs are working. I assume your rca adapter is the culprit. If you have a phone case, remove it and verify that the 3.5mm prong is fully inserted.

Get a newer HU. I'm almost 100% sure that the RCA's are output from unit to amp. For under 200 you can get Bluetooth Aux USB with simply doing a simple HU install
