RCA question

So i have 2 JL 12W3v2's....1.5 cube sealed for each. Wired to 2ohm.

880PRS HU

Hifonics BX1205D....

I have great bass response when it comes to bass tracks like late night tip and such...but when i put in any type of rock, the kickdrum is lacking...really bad.

Almost like you cannot hear any kick out of the subs. There is no punch to them.

My amp kit is very very cheap as of right now...i mean walmart brand RCA's.

Could the cheapy interconnects cause this problem?

Also, how does one usually go about setting gains when a remote gain is used? Set the remote to 0 or full or half or not use one at all?

Each chamber is 1.5 cubes after displacement....JL recommends 1.25...is that extra .25 killing me?

Local car shop owner said it was....very reputable shop also.

Try stuffing you box with polyfill, it may help, didnt for me. Try crossing over your mids lower. You can try crossing your sub higher but I dont like the sound in my system that way. Its not your rca's. I want to add midbass drivers for the verry same problem you have. Make shure you sound deaden your doors well and mount your speaker in a mdf ring, this helps.

What is the crossover set at? if too low you wont get punchy bass. I'd say check polarity but you say you have bass with lower notes. If you want to see if it is the box size, pull the woofer and toss in something solid (cut up 2x4, bricks, whatever you can use to take up space) See if it helps. I dont think it would make a HUGE differance, sounds like something else/

A 20% increase in box volume in a sealed enclosure isn't going to have the effects you are talking about. Neither will RCAs. The likely culprit is the crossover as mentioned by knukonceptz there. The "kick" of a kickdrum isn't a low bass thing but rather an upper/mid bass thing. If you cut the subs off too early an the front stage isn't up to the task, there will be a lack of impact form the kickdrums. Raise the crossover freq a bit and see what that does for you.
