OK I'm one of those guys who listen's to everything, with my current set-up, heavy bass tracks of rap/reggae, sound great hit hard....

when listening to ozzy, megadeath, etc... the stereo sounds like shit, the bass sounds "muddy"? not nice solid hits...

also when listening to country it sounds good again???

what do you rockers use for your speakers to hear quility rock music???

You are in need of a solid midbass stage.

In general rap and country usually do sound better than rock IMO. I think it has alot to do with the recording studio and who is mastering the album. I've heard a few that sounded really good but most are just crap.

Agreed with the sealed better than ported for losts of rock... or smaller low tuned enclosures. But as mentioned too... most ignore the fact that a strong midbass section is lacking in most peoples systems. Its amazing how much of the tightness of kick drums "should" come from the midbass up front.

Lots of rock is recorded and mastered very well. Its the hardocre and punk that I listen to that sounds like cr@p all the time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I use the set up in my sig and play a lot of 80's metal, and very loud at times. Has NO problem playing accurate with plenty of punch from snares/toms and smack you in the head kicks.

Try dialing back the amp gain (if you have a remote knob) and turn off any bass boost as that always makes it sound bloated/muddy.

I agree with the statement about how the original track was recorded. . .

I use 2 IDQ 12" in a sealed @ 1 cu. each and am pretty much an exclusive rock/heavy speed metal listener. LP is crossed at about 80 Hz with a 24dB/octave slope. They never skip a beat with blazing double bass rips.

I would add that the speed with the bass guitar and bass drum blend to create muddy bass "crap" sound. That's just the nature of the beast my friend!!

However, overcome this by simply turning the gain down on the LP crossed amp and cranking the volume more for your mids. This is exactly the reason why I'm currently working on the addition of a second set in my doors !!! Mids MIDS MIDS are what we need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Personally some of my favorites are Metallica...especially the black album....Candlebox sounds really good, Nirvana....I guess most of the old stuff. I like the new songs but they just don't sound as good as the old ones do. You can most definately tell a difference in the way the music was recorded. I absolutely love well recorded live albums. As for the kick drum...definately have a solid midbass. I've got my midbass run down to 40 hz and let the 12 take over from there down. Of course all my speakers are up front so that does help. The Tool albums sound good as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Krikey that's low-passed mid-bass!!! Nice call for lettin' that MAX take over at 40 and below. . .I've never used it but I heard it's a beast at those insane low notes!!

I was thinking about trying a set of dedicated mids band-pass filtered from 60-300in the door. Don't know what to expect though!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Or just another component set with passive XO point at about 1KHz??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
