Random bursts of BASS!

So I installed a tiny little system in the girlfriends car, a Kenwood X397, Zapco ST-1 300 watt amp, JLW3V2 D2 wired at 4 ohms. 8 gauge Memphis wiring kit, JBL speakers all around. All stuff is brand new, even if it's old, she tells me today that she got the **** scared out of her when the sub randomly got super loud at a point in a song that it shouldn't have. Louder than typically. Currently the Zapco is completely zeroed out with regards to gain, filters, bass boost, haven't messed with it yet. The ground is sketchy, just wanted to clarify that it could be the issue. Could that be the case? It's in a 2010 Cobalt, If that matters.

How would that happen? The RCAs are brand new could be flawed out of the box I guess, but they are not near the ground. Or am I missing the point? Sorry if that's the case.
Being pinched under something when you run them under the carpet? Similarly a fault on a PCB of an amp or HU can get you the same place. Just saying that a sudden random tone burst has always been that for me.

I did run it under some very tight plastic trim. So I should try replacing it and maybe running it a different way?
