Where do you think the mom and pop businesses buy their gas from? It has to come from someone who runs a refinery which in most cases is Exxon Mobil, Shell, BP, Valero, Chevron, etc. just without the detergents and additives that you get with name brand gas.Do you know what happens if we stop buying gas from Exxon? Generics (the pantry here locally) will just buy the gas from Exxon.
Here is a choice for you:
1) Gas available at $4.00 per gallon
2) Gas is $3 per gallon but there is no gas.
That is what happens when you create price ceilings.
Are you saying that it should be illegal for oil companies to make profits? It seems like a pretty profitable business enterprise since the profits are so high. As the profits increase, the incentives for alternative fuels increase, thus lowering the profits.
No, especially when you throw in the fact that the EPA tests for MPG severely favor the hybrids. I think next year the new EPA rating come out and the hybrids will take something like an 8mpg hit on claimed mpg. Also in actual use the MPG on a hybrid usually ends up in the upper 30's because people don't know how or want to modify their driving habits for maximum hybrid efficiency. In the end you do NOT save money on the hybrids, it's even hard to recoup your money on the diesels. If you want to save money get a compact, 4cyl, 160hp econobox and get 30-40mpg in a car that costs less than 20k.Ya know what I noticed...
There was a toyota/scion display in the middle of our local mall with some of their cheap, econo cars including the Xa and Prius. The pricetag, on the Prius, was well over $30k for a car that does 50MPG...but the Xa, was half the price, and did 30MPG.
I'm too lazy to do the math, but is the Prius really saving you money in the long run?
but i love california girls. . .then quit your b!tching and move.
Didnt eat beans eh?I did not get gas.
Wow! that much for a prius? was it on dub deuces with 2 15's in the back?Ya know what I noticed...

I don't how your comment is in contrast to mine. Some of the language seems like you are contesting, while other comments seem to reinforce it.Where do you think the mom and pop businesses buy their gas from? So even if you buy generic gas, you are still supporting the majors in refining, where they make their money.
Sorry, but the majors are going to make the money regardless of who you buy from.
tis why I'm buying a mountain bike //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifI did not get gas.
I used to use my mountain bike as a bmx bike. i made a ghetto ramp to do a superman and failed all the time, though i did get close one time when using my cousins sister's bike after painting it silver.tis why I'm buying a mountain bike //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
I'm not exactly sure what kind of reference you are trying to make here but there isn't a problem using a mountain bike for ramping.I used to use my mountain bike as a bmx bike. i made a ghetto ramp to do a superman and failed all the time, though i did get close one time when using my cousins sister's bike after painting it silver.

Well, barring collusion (them all working together to screw us over) the reason they would build another refinery is to capture more of the market. Demand is high so if they sell more gas than the competitors they will make more money. Some people think the prices are fixed. If thats the case then there is nothing we can do. If its refining capacity which many people say. Well with record profits, what benefit is there for the oil companies or us for them to build more refineries. Why would they invest a bunch of money to lower their profits //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I doubt any major price drop would reach us since we obviously will pay anything for gas. Either way we are screwed.
