can amplifiers short due to static? I know that computer parts can and this seems similar to me. If an amp is sent in the mail, is there a chance that static could build up and mess up the amp?
I would more than likely say no. I've done fnked up stuff to my amp, such as accidentally discharging a capacitor onto a speaker terminal. It didn't hurt it. Computer components get messed up by static because they have such delicate parts that any voltage above what they can handle will blow them much like you would blow a car fuse. All nice n' melty. Car amplifiers, especially big ones can handle alot of juice before that will happen to them.
