Ok my step brother just bought a one 12w7 and has a 1000 watt rms alpine amp, and we are wondering what would be the best way to hook the amp to the sub. thanks for any help.

There's only one way you can connect a single w7 to an amp - connect the only voice coil directly to the amplifier's outputs. You can expect only about 300-400 watts from that amp at that impedance load, unfortunately.
