quick question

ok guys i have a quick question in reference to an enclosure for 2 IA 187s 12". Right now i have the pair in a 5.5 cu.ft. enclosure tuned to 32 hz with a 49in^2 port. would it get louder by decreasing the volume to say 4 cu.ft. and increasing the port area to around 70in^2? i am looking to make it louder on the 800wrms i have going to the pair right now. the port will be a slot port on the same plane as the subs unless you would advise to go another way with sub/port location. is this a better enclosure for the 187s or is there something else you would suggest i do to get louder. also will this decrease in volume make the subs play lower notes not as well as the larger enclosure and if so by how much? thanks for any help you guys offer. i appreciate it.
