quick question

if I buy a nice set of components (around $200-300 or possibly more) will they be able to get really loud (while sounding good) on 50 watts of power or will I need to get up in the 100's range?? I know it all depends on the equipment but as a general rule would they get loud???

I have a pair of alpine type-r 6x9s and they get loud but I have to turn the bass down to where its not really thumping hard anymore, but they were only $100 so its not a big deal, and thats only when i really crank the shit out of them.

with 50 W and a crank the shit out of them mentality, you are probabally clipping the amp. I may be wrong, but that was my initial reaction. More power with properly set gains should get you louder and sound better doing it.

Your best bet no matter what you do is to really deaden your door as well as possible. Then get your comps. 50 watts is enough to get loud if you get the right set. Question to you...is the 50 watts you state from the head unit or from an external amp?

its from an amp

everyone HU ive looked at is between 16 and 22 watts rms, which is nowhere near where i want to be.

also I can bridge it to 70 or 80 watts (i dont remember) but I wouldnt be able to buy another pair of speakers later if i wanted to do 50x4, i really dont feel like hooking up another amp lol
