quick question in fusing/wiring

Distance from amp to battery is 18 inches or less than 2ft. Amp is US AMPS md2d

1. Do I still need to run a fuse?

2. Is 4ga sufficient? If not which ga should I use?

always fuse the power wire, and fuse to the size of the wire. i personally will always run 1/0 gauge and step down with reducers if i have to

OK because I have always read that you should fuse within 18in.. This might throw a curveball when the distance is less than 18in.

So for a 120a amp with 1500w 4ga is not sufficient and I need 1/0ga wire??? Even if the distance is less than 2ft?
