Quick Question about reverse baffle rings and minimal space in front of the enclosure

I'll try and keep this short, I'm squeezing a L-shaped ported box in a tiny space and I have maxed out my dimensions. The subs need to sit flush with the face, so I originally thought of placing another piece of mdf to create a double baffle in the inside of the box on the sub side. Unfortunately I will lose .2 cubes that I cannot afford to, so if I create sub mounting rings say, 2" thick (radially) and mount them to the inside of the face and then mount the subs to them will it be sufficient? I don't want to compromise integrity or create any negative effects. I figure this way I will lose a lot less space with the rings than the entire face.

Also, the enclosure will fire towards the rear of the hatch but it's pretty much up against the wall, just enough room for the subs to fire, is this a problem? Thanks a ton in advance, -Mat

first part of that would a double baffle is to prevent flex so brace it up with threaded rod the best you can and as for having them facing the rear and rather close to the lid should be about the loudest way to place them anyway(4"-5") so I think your idea sounds good to carry out.

thanks for the replies, keep em comin

I don't want to upfire if at all possible, I've heard that it is much louder facing them to the rear in my car. The only thing is that I don't have 4-5" (350z) it will be more like 1.5-3" its really really tight I barely squeezed the space that I needed, is this an issue?? Also how would I brace the rod, just against the rings?? Will there be any flex or vibration issues using the rings??

The rod is threaded you just drill a hole put two nut/washers on the rod at each end to bolt through the box and adjust how much tension is on the board by tightening the nut I would just skip the mdf rings on the inside unless you really need them to bolt to but good screws should be more then enough, also if you can squeeze 3" of space between the woofers and the wall your loading them off of you should get away with it but 1.5" is to close I would think.

350z sorry i had it in parenthesis earlier, wasn't too clear. My phone keeps crazy posting double/triple. I'll draw a schematic soon for you guys

I have a custom fiberglass sealed enclosure under the strut bar that I made but it isnt cutting it and I BARELY fit my 3.0 cubes @35hz plan in there... There is no space like I said I MIGHT be able to get 3 inches, but this is already going with RE's compact size vs the optimal 4@33hz. I can't lose anymore space, hence why I want rings mounted inside the box on the face to mount my subs flush...

why not make a ring that will make the subs appear flush, lay some filler and sand smooth so it's transition looks normal when you wrap it.
My idea is to cut the holes in the face to 14" make rings to mount to the inside with the proper cutout and mount the subs to those so they are flush. Essentially the same as how it would look with a double baffle panel of wood I just dont have the room to do one on the outside nor do I have the space inside to spare for a whole panel... If I was at home I'd sketch it on paint, I just want to know if the sound would be affected in any negative way.

Slot Port? And looking down at it, is the port closer to the rear of the hatch than the subs or vice versa? I'll look into this but I could have sworn somewhere I've read that it is louder to have them fire toward the rear, I'll look around and fool with some plans. Maybe it will be worth a shot because the box is already all the way to the rear of the hatch and one of my main concerns has been not enough airspace firing right into the back of the hatch. Thanks guys! Anyone else have any experience with this?

Yes it's a slot port and both the port and sub are at the rear of the car. Doesn't matter where you read that, it wasn't entirely accurate. Every vehicle is different so to say one setup is the best way for all hatchbacks is kind of a big assumption. If you don't have the room to rear fire than that's not really an option now is it?
