quick question about my amp: connecting to battery

Hi all! i've come here for help...

i recently bought an amp and don't really have much experience with wiring these things up.

i just want to test it with some car speakers i have laying around, to make sure it works...

now i connected it up to a car battery, but only connected to + and ground.....nothing happens.

now i find out you need to connect a 12v current to the remote input so it turns on....

is it safe to split the + power source from the battery, and just connect from the positive connection on the battery to the + on the amp aswell as the remote to power it?

thanks heaps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif :)
