quick box designing question

got a quick question about designing a box, when im getting my dimensions, and start tuning,do i use the cubic feet before displacements, to calculate my tuning, and subtract the displacements and use that number, like for example, designing a box, the net cubes before displacements is 12 cubes, im putting in a port thas 23 high and 8 wide and 16 deep, which gives me a tuning of right at 39 hz correct??, and now my box volume is going to be at 9.5 cubes, or do i use the 9.5 cubes to calculate tuning. any help would be a huge huge help

yes use the 9.5 value , you also need to subtrack the speaker displacement and any bracing
