Question regarding wattage

I have a Viper D1200.1 amp. I was wondering if there is a way to tune it to get very low power from this amp? Say 150watts or so at 4 ohms. The setup I have now can take it, however the speaker I am going to get would not. I was just asking because I would rather not have to get a new amp if I don't have to. Thanks in advance.

what do you plan on powering with this, a sub, or a set of speakers. The reason I'm asking is because you can't power speakers with that amp. It's mono, so you wouldn't have stereo sound anymore.

ya, check the gain setting tutorial, but instead of calculating your voltage according to the maximum output of the amp, find the voltage of the amount of power you want to show the sub.

piece of cake.

-OR- turn the volume knob counterclockwise. works just as well

He's getting a new Toby Sheriff Sub. The sub only needs 140 watts max. The Viper D1200 is way too big to crank it up on a whim.

I think besides turning the volume knob counterclockwise, (obviously the wise suggestion) he was asking if there was a way to lower the putput of the Viper.

Toby speakers and subs are super efficient and produce true sound. I know most folks want to have more power, but in this case better sound is the goal without burning up a sweet sub-woofer such as the Toby Sheriff with an amp that's three times too powerful for the need.

I'm just a noob here, but have any of you ever even heard of Toby speakers?

no, but they cant be too good if they can only handle 140 max //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i have that much RMS to my front speakers

i swear to christ, all of the intelligent people from this forum either got killed in a freak terrorist accident, or went out of town for the osu game

power handling has NOTHING to do with the quality of speakers.

you get all of that? NOTHING.

And decreasing the volume DECREASES THE POWER OUTPUT............ Way to kickstart your forum membership with a bang there, bowtie

OK there big guy.

LOL, dude I've had Toby Speakers since the early 80's. For car use and for home use. True sound is what I've come to appreciate over the years. Not some over powered rumblings that some people call sound. Volume isn't everything. I'm not a nut-swinger boasting that Toby's are the best ever made, I'm just saying that for the best sound, a balanced system is better.
