I currently have an alpine type R 12 2nd gen. d4 in a 1.5 ft3 net after port @36hz on a hifonics brz1200.1 and I like it. I don't like sealed boxes as much because I like having a little of the boomier sound after the bass hits. So my question is, if I were to switch out to another subwoofer within the 400-1000watt range, would I notice much difference in sound or would most sub just sound similar and buying another would be a waste of money? If someone thinks another subwoofer would sound much better quality wise than the current type r I have in a ported box, could you recommend one? I would like to stay around $200 or less running a single 12".
On a side note, I have tried this type R 12 in a 2 ft3 net after port@33hz and it was too boomy for my taste, that is why I am using the 1.5ft ported at the moment. It sounds more musical to my ears. This is also just a daily driver and I'm not into spl, so I don't want a one note fart sub. Also forgot to mention that this is in a sealed trunk of a Toyota solara with me running all 6x9 rockfords in stock postions on an alpine 4ch amp. Just basic stuff.
