Question for USB HU owners

Im thinking of upgrading to USB compatible HU. And wanted to find out which one to get.

Does your HU accept only flash drive or external Hard drives as well?

And also once you hook it up and it plays songs from USB drive, can you see the artis and song name ? (i head it will show only if the song was doanloaded from authorized site).

Please list the model of you HU.

I have a kenwood x791 for sale. Has a usb for ipod adapter, and flash drives. Haven't tried a HD but the flash drive worked fine!

yea it shows artist name, song name, album name, and folder. That is, if you have all the ID3 tags complete.

Ive only used flash drives and MP3 players, all work just fine, and theres been stories here of people using hard drives (but with external power source, the USB power is not enough to spin a 250GB hard drive)

I got the Kenwood X 890. It comes with soft ware so that it speaks the artist, folder, title, song. Also it can take a hard drive, but most likely it will have a slow load speed, and you will need an external power source for it. Vid of it in action in my Sig.

Ive never owned an ipod so i couldnt tell ya. I dont need an ipod when i have 3000+ songs on tap, on USB alone

Yep no ipod needed here either. Just a nice Alpine x001.

I use one a usb drive, 8gb, that holds all my cd's in seperate folders. I also have another 8gb usb drive that has specific "favorites" folders...hard rock, lite rock, 60's, etc.

I also have a WD 160gb hard drive that my x001 reads just fine. It has 44gb of folders/files on it and the x001 takes roughly 20 seconds to read it before it is ready to go.

I find that I prefer the usb drives. They are read much faster and it is much less a distraction...less choices you know LOL...when driving.
