Anyone know if the phase plug version of this component set would be better suited to be installed in kick pods, or some other modified method, as opposed to being installed in the doors off axis? Or would the non-phase plug Vanadiums be a better choice for an IB installation?

Phase plug mids disperse the sound directly out of the center of the woofer, so I would think that they would need to be installed on-axis for better/more accurate sound reproduction, correct?

Not anymore or less than any other type of speaker. In a speaker, the highest frequencies surface from the area around the center of the cone and the lower frequencies are produced by the area of the cone that is farther from the center.

The Phase plugs purpose is to eliminate mid to high frequency collisions that are typical on a woofer with a dustcap, which collide at a focal point and cause phase distortion(i.e. a tax in clarity). The Phase plug serves as a barrier/detour between these waves colliding and redirects them outward.

so I would think that they would need to be installed on-axis for better/more accurate sound reproduction, correct?
That would depend on the particulars speaker off axis performance in relation to its on axis, it varies by speaker. These happen to have great off axis from my experience and its parameters can suit IB/door use.
