Question about Tablet Head Unit Install

If I install a Nexus 7 into my dash, and have it connected through Aux, will the volume control still work without the radio? I'm not sure if the volume is to the radio or speakers.

Will the LOC still be able to catch the bass without a radio, just a tablet?

So this:

Amazon.com: Metra 99-5827B Double/Single DIN Radio Installation Kit for 2012-Up Ford Focus: Car Electronics

And then a Nexus 7 in it

My amazing photoshop job

.You'll be sacrificing on sound quality. You can use just the tablet without a head unit though, you'll need to go from 3.5mm > RCA's > Processor > Amps

edit... like this: Hifonics HFEQ 4-Band Equalizer with 9-Volt Line-Driver and
Ok so amp to Processor, processor to tablet?

I have a stock system right now and I think $400 is a lot better to spend than $700.

but with this processor and maybe a DAC it'll cost the same...

I guess I'll stick to this:

Honestly, to get the best of both worlds... do what I did.

If you haven't already bought the nexus, buy the kindle fire hd, root it and put a good rom on it. Buy a Pioneer 80prs.

You'll get the option to go active, run the tablet to the rear aux so it's not seen... use rear usb for keeping it charged, and it all works out perfectly.

I only said kindle fire hd because it's cheaper, correct? That's the one I bought

I wish I could do that.

There is no dash kit for regular head units...

And the kindle and nexus are the same price.

$249 for 32gb

Like Steve Meade with his mac in the dash?
If I got a HU in the armrest, what would I do with my dash?
Android tablet or ipad mini with an aux cord running to the rear of the headunit... control the volume from the tablet, have the option of ipod, etc. from the headunit and run active off it.

Sounds complicated! lol

I think I'll stick to the Pioneer x5500bhs

What do you mean by active?

Thanks for all your help!

Just picked up a 13 Focus ST, looking into this now. I do have SYNC and want to keep it. Their is a Metra kit to keep it working. My understanding is you will keep voice controls. But you will probably need to use the steering wheel setup in the below thread. Go through it and watch all the videos (long). You will need a laptop for setup.

As for the tablet, their is a wealth of info here: EDIT can't post links, search "Nexus 7 clean car install with backup cam" it's on XDA developers

It seems like a lot of work, but a kernel and ROM actually exists for the Nexus 7 for use in a car.
