question about subwoofers....

I have a very simple question....Can a subwoofer wear out? Can it be used so much that the spider become wore out over time? Can the surround become to "soft"?

reason for asking is because i have an old school 15" orion xtr series 2 subwoofer that my sister is wanting to put in her car. Last time i hooked it up was to my pa a1800db in my sig. i set the gain to about 400 watts (the sub is 500 rms) and let er' rip and the sub sounded like it was bottoming out, from too much excursion i suppose. the sub was moving like crazy....

is this possible???? discuss....

yes the suspension on a sub can wear out

if its bottoming out when it shouldnt its probably worn out
