question about impedence

Are you sure it says 3 ohms and not 8 ohms?

Reason is I have never heard of any home speaker (other than home made) that has a nominal 3 ohm load.

If it really is 3 ohms, what brand is it and what power is it rated at 3 ohms per channel? Putting an 8 ohm speaker on each channel would be fine, but would be delivering significantly leaa power than it's 3 ohm rating to each speaker.

I'm seeing it listed as:

* min. RMS, driven into 3 ohms at 1kHz, with no more than 10% total harmonic distortion

** min. RMS, driven into 3 ohms at 100Hz, with no more than 10% total harmonic distortion

for 200watts. Thats alot of distortion, the new CEA ratings are using 1% distortion for max power. So it really isn't putting out a clean 200 watts. Anyway it's tough to say how much it will change from 3 to 4 ohms, some amps will double their output going from 4 to 2 ohms, some will not. It depends on the amp and I doubt you'll find those specs.

Am I the only one who finds it very hard to believe that a $300 HTIB system is actually capable of 200x6 of real world power at 3ohms?

It seems the amps are in the sub whioch could mean they are pretty powerful, but the sub is 6.5" and the fronts and surrounds have 2-3" drivers. They are getting 200 watts each??? I highly doubt it.

I read some reviews on Crutchfield and they dont add up:

great for small room.. dont plan on rattling the walls with it tho.good unit for the price
This unit is perfect for a bedroom or small family room.
Seems really odd to me, I am thinking those specs are max power and rms is more like 50 watts each channel

Yeah the 200 number was with 10% distortion (see my post above). They probably are less than 100 with reasonable distortion.
