Question about how much sound deadener to use

I contacted the folks at RAAMmat to ask them how much deadener I would need for my car. I was just looking to do my front doors to boost my midbass as they are the only locations in the vehicle where mids will be installed. Rick from RAAMmat suggested to not only do my front doors, he also suggested doing my rear doors, the inside of the trunk lid, behind the kick panels, and even the floor. I really don't want to completely gut my car's interior, or spend hundreds of dollars on deadener if I can avoid it. I really just wanted to use the RAAMmat and Esonite to seal and deaden the front doors. Is that not enough? I realize they probably want to sell as much of this stuff as they can, and the more deadener in the car the quieter it will be, but how much of the vehicle do you guys cover with deadener when you use it. In case it matters, there won't be any speakers installed in my rear doors or on the rear deck, and I will have one 12" sub in a seal enclosure in the trunk.

The question "Is it enough?" really depends on your goals.

Is just the front doors enough to really sound deaden your vehicle ? No.

Is just the front doors enough to enhance the performance of the speakers located in those doors ? Yes...BUT you could enhance the performance of your system even further by complimenting the front door deadening with more adequate deadening of the rest of your vehicle.

It's sort of like an engine......you want to go fast, so you upgrade your intake. Well, that's a good start to gaining some horsepower and ultimately speed.....but better performance would be realized by complimenting that intake upgrade with other upgrades throughout the engine.

See my point, and probably the point Rick was trying to make ?

Also; Since Raammat can only be purchased by the roll....you are going to have some deadener left over. Even thoroughly deadening your front doors, you'll probably only use ~30sqft of that roll. So you are going to have some "extra" that you can apply to some of the other areas that Rick mentioned.......

And the suggestion to deaden the rear door, rear deck, etc was aimed to reducing road noise and rattles produced by the subwoofer.......not really related to where the speakers would/wouldn't be mounted.

Actually, Rick said he would sell me 1/2 a roll which he also said should be enough to do all 4 doors. That's probably a good compromise for me between doing the whole car and what I originally wanted to do.

Meh....for the cost I'd just go ahead and get an entire roll. It's relatively affordable & you'll certainly use it all. But it's nice that Rick is offering to only sell you half a roll if that's all you are able/willing to purchase.

As far as what I have.....Right now I have 3 layers of mat on my front doors, 2 layers of mat on the floor along w/ a thick layer of liquid deadener & a few layers of ensolite, rear deck/rear seat area has 2 layers of mat thinner layer of liquid & ensolite, trunk floor, walls & lid have 2 layers of mat. Come spring/summer I need to get back in there and add ensolite to the front doors, full deaden the rear doors w/ mat & ensolite, considering throwing some liquid deadener on all doors aswell, need to add some mat to some of the interior trim panels and some more miscellaneous deadening as the need arises.

I absolutely despise deadening, it is the bane of my existence. So that's why I've procrastinated on some of the later things I've mentioned.
